MAY 7, 2007 -- Teknovus (search for Teknovus) says that Fiberhome's (search for Fiberhome) FTTH system is being used as a benchmark for testing and deployment by China Telecom. Fiberhome has designed its equipment based on Teknovus's chipsets.
China Telecom's selection of the Fiberhome FTTH system requires other vendors participating in the testing to benchmark their systems against Fiberhome's performance results. Fiberhome's FTTH system, based on Teknovus's IPTV-enabled triple-play architecture, ensures quality of service per application per user. Teknovus's ONU requires around 2 W of power, providing the lowest-energy usage of any available alternative, the chipmaker says. For China Telecom, power savings is crucial as the country deploys fiber-based broadband communications nationwide, Teknovus adds.
"Fiberhome is our first EPON vendor in China to have secured major deployments throughout the country," stated Greg Caltabiano, president and CEO of Teknovus. "We are delighted that China Telecom chose Fiberhome as a benchmark for system vendors in this test process. Fiberhome has deployed their solutions in every province in China. We are experiencing fast acceleration in our customer deployments throughout Asia."
"We believe PON will be so important that FTTH will stand for 'Fiber Takes over the Home'," Teknovus quotes Chungcheng Fan, vice director, China Institute of Communications, as saying at OFC in March. "EPON will be the winner," he continued.
