European broadband technology provider Iskratel said a key EMEA Tier 1 operator chose its Innbox G108 home gateway for use in a next-generation PON trial. Iskratel has yet to name the operator, but affirms that it is participating in the Central Office Re-architected as a Data Center (CORD) project.

Several hundred optical network terminals (ONTs) have been deployed, supporting speeds of up to 10 Gbps upstream and 10 Gbps downstream. The next-gen PON gateways align with recent fiber XGS-PON access technology to support enhanced triple-play service delivery, including Internet data, HDTV and other IP video, and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP).

The company plans to offer additional services following the deployment, meeting the demand for new business models that will spark further revenue.

Iskratel asserts the G108 home gateway is an ideal fit for the customer's digital transformation strategy to establish a secure, affordable migration route to next-gen gigabit access, while minimizing service disruption. The Innbox G108 complies with the recent ITU-T G.9807 GPON standard and delivers four full-gigabit Ethernet ports.

Additionally, the technology offers wireless access through concurrent dual-band Wi-Fi technology. Online evaluation of users' data is enabled by a quality control monitoring client to decrease the operator's opex. Embedded NAT, firewall, and IP sharing technology guarantee secure broadband access as well, says the technology provider.

Iskratel introduced the Innbox G108 home gateway alongside its 8-port multi-PON blade and the 16-port GPON blade at the FTTH Conference Europe, in Valencia, Spain this past February (see "Iskratel unveils PON blades to enable next-generation network upgrades").

Iskratel's Innbox G108 home gateway and its next-gen broadband solutions portfolio are being showcased at the FTTH APAC Conference 2018, this week in Manila, Philippines, and at ANGA COM 2018, June 12 to 14 in Cologne, Germany.
