Alcoa Fujikura manufactures its 50,000th km of optical ground wire

3/24/00 Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. (Spartanburg, TN) announced that it recently manufactured its 50,000th kilometer of optical ground wire. The 50,000th kilometer was reached during the production of cable for Tennessee Valley Authority.

Optical ground wire is a fiber cable that is typically installed on electric utility transmission lines, producing dual functionality as a fiber optic cable and an electrical static wire. Accoring to the company, Alcoa Fujikura currently has the world's largest installed base of optical ground wire.

Alcoa Fujikura's product line consists of cables with standard fiber counts up to 288.
