AGL Networks, LLC has begun construction on its first metropolitan fiber network in Atlanta. The network will consist of a series of eight conduits that total 77 miles in length, or the equivalent of 616 conduit miles and will serve critical points of contact within Atlanta's Central Business District, as well as areas north of the city such as Buckhead, Galleria and Sandy Springs. Some dark (unlit) fiber may be available for lease as part of the project.
According to Eric Martinez, vice president of corporate development for AGL Networks, leasing of essential components can provide a significant benefit to telecommunications companies looking to offer high-speed services in metro Atlanta because they can forgo the investment of time and capital to build a network from scratch.
