NorthState plans FTTP expansion in North Carolina counties of Alamance, Guilford, Orange and Wayne

North State expects the more than 800 miles of fiber broadband extension will pass more than 53,000 homes and businesses by sometime in 2023.

Fiber to the premises (FTTP) broadband provider NorthState says it plans to extend its FTTP infrastructure to new communities in the North Carolina counties of Alamance, Guilford, Orange, and Wayne. North State expects the more than 800 miles of fiber broadband extension will pass more than 53,000 homes and businesses by sometime in 2023.

The FTTP roll out will see approximately 39,000 addresses added in Alamance County and neighboring Guilford and Orange counties, including the towns of Burlington, Gibsonville, Elon, Whitsett, and Mebane, among others. The remaining 14,000 targeted homes and business are in Wayne County, where North State expects to cover the majority of Goldsboro with fiber as part of its FTTP extension there.

The deployment will begin this summer; North State expects to be able to serve at least some new customers by this fall.

"We are so excited to bring ultra-high-speed fiber internet to these North Carolina communities," NorthState CEO Diego Anderson said, "NorthState will make additional announcements as we continue the expansion of our future-proof network. We are also committed to supporting our entire footprint with 100% fiber-to-the-home access, a project that is underway and planned for completion next year."

NorthState and sister brand Lumos provide triple-play services to approximately 200,000 homes and businesses in North Carolina (NorthState) and Virginia (Lumos; see "Lumos Fiber accelerates fiber broadband deployment in Virginia").
