Glo Fiber, Shenandoah Telecommunications’s (Shentel’s; Nasdaq: SHEN) fiber broadband business unit, will continue its footprint expansion with construction of fiber to the home (FTTH) networks in Sussex County, DE. The company’s first foray into Delaware, the Glo Fiber FTTH deployment should begin in early 2023 and will target more than 21,000 homes and businesses in the county.
Glo Fiber will offer three tiers of symmetrical, high-speed internet access (topping out at 2 Gbps), streaming TV, and unlimited local and long-distance phone service. The Glo TV service is delivered via an app and is compatible with Apple TV, Amazon's Fire Stick, and “many” smart TVs, according to the company.
"Any time we expand to a new state or region it's exciting," said Chris Kyle, vice president of industry affairs and regulatory. "The county staff at Sussex County have been fantastic to work with and are eager to have a competitive fiber provider come to their area. This expansion will continue to grow the Glo brand in new markets where residents and businesses alike will reap the benefits of having access to our state-of-the-art fiber product."
The move into Delaware is part of a Shentel’s plan to expand its customer base in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. (see, for example, “Glo Fiber to expand FTTH in York County, VA” and “Shentel targets Glo Fiber FTTH at Lancaster County, PA”). The company currently serves parts of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Its activities in each state are supported via 7,600 route miles of fiber, which also connect to more than 220 macro cellular towers.
