Broadband services provider NorthState announced plans to bring build 683 miles of ultra-high speed fiber-optic internet connectivity to 38,000 homes and businesses in Forsyth and Randolph counties in North Carolina by 2024. The expansion will bring fiber internet to underserved areas of Bethania, Lewisville, and Winston-Salem in Forsyth County and nearly 100% fiber coverage to the Asheboro, Franklinville, and Ramseur communities in Randolph County.
While most consumers in the region are currently served by cable or DSL infrastructure, NorthState asserts its fiber network will offer 154X faster uploads and 12X faster downloads than traditional cable. Completion of the project is slated for under two years, with construction beginning this year.
“The demand for bandwidth is only increasing as consumers connect more and more devices – and use more and more two-way applications like Zoom and gaming – that demand not just high download speeds, but equally fast upload speeds,” says Jay Winn, chief customer officer at NorthState. “Fiber is the only technology that can meet these demands and unlock the potential of what’s next.”
