SEPTEMBER 20, 2006 -- Data services provider Link3 Technologies Ltd. has selected the Wave7 Optics' (search wave7 optics) Trident7 Optical Access Platform for a new fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network serving the Dhaka Metropolitan City area in Bangladesh.
Link3 will cover residential customers in the city's metro areas with a high-speed Internet, data-only service before the end of this year. The company is moving to a full-fledged triple-play offering of Internet, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and video-on-demand (VoD) in mid-2007. By the end of 2008, Link3 will connect potential residential and business subscribers with data, video, and voice services all over the capital city of Dhaka in Bangladesh, ultimately serving tens of thousands of subscribers.
According to Wave7 Optics, the Trident7 is the industry's most advanced and flexible FTTP platform, as it delivers standards-based EPON and GPON technologies in the same platform, which allows service providers to deliver a much broader array of services, compared with other access network technologies.
Link3's own fiber-optic backbone, which covers the entire city area, enables the company to provide the most extensive FTTP network in the country. Current services, provided to most of the country's leading banks and businesses, include high-speed Internet, intranet connectivity for enterprises, and dark fiber leasing.
"We selected Wave7 Optics as the best fiber-to-the-user solution in the industry," explains Sajjid Pasha, managing director, Link3 Technologies Ltd. "We started the deployment process last February and nothing has changed to alter our assessment of the Wave7 Optics' solution. In addition to supplying us with an efficient and cost-effective suite of products, they have provided us with a level of product and network rollout support above all expectations."
"A key criterion for Link3 was to ensure that the investment made today would pay dividends in the coming years, and the Trident7 provides that assurance as it supports today's and tomorrow's standards-based PON architectures," adds Sanjay Gupta, Asia-Pacific regional director for Wave7 Optics. "The Trident7 provides substantial advantages to operators when it comes to initial capital outlays, system integration, and minimal disruption to ongoing operations and outside plant during times of network expansion."
Wave7 Optics is exhibiting the complete Trident7 and its Last Mile Link product lines at the FTTH Council Conference in Las Vegas, October 2 - 5, at The Venetian Resort (booth 121). In addition, Wave7 Optics CTO, Jim Farmer, is participating in the panel discussion and presentation, "FTTH Success Stories - Municipal Networks," on October 3rd, 11 am - 12 pm and is giving a paper, "Optical Considerations in FTTH Networks," on October 4th, 10:30 - 11:00 am. Stephen Thomas, Chief Architect for Wave7 Optics, will present his paper, "OAM&P in Passive Optical Networks," on October 4th, 1:45 - 2:15 pm.
