June 21, 2005 Paris, France -- Nexans has been awarded a 15 million Euro contract by Atlas Telecom Network Romania, a private Romanian telecom operator, to supply of 2,300 km of fiber-optic cables and approximately 6,000 km of copper telecom cables. The operator is developing a project, based on Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication (DECT) technology, to provide data and voice services for 20 cities in Romania, including the capital city of Bucharest.
For the project, Nexans will deliver its All Dielectric Self Supporting (ADSS) fiber-optic cables and copper telecom cables for xDSL applications. The company says the technical platform supports VDSL applications with demonstrated performances and should also cover future applications.
"3 years ago, Atlas Telecom Network Romania developed a pilot project in Oradea, based on DECT technology, where Nexans supplied fiber-optic and copper telecom cables, as well as the accessories," comments Yvon Raak, executive vice president of Nexans Europe. "We are delighted to work on a new project with this operator. Our group's proven competence in copper and fiber-optic cables has permitted us develop new solutions, in a very short timeframe, specifically adapted to this project."
