Huawei launches large-capacity vectoring system

Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. has launched a new version of its MA5600T, which it says is the largest-capacity vectoring system the industry has seen to date. The new product offers 896-line access capability, more than twice the average line capacity of alternative vectoring systems, the company claims.

Vectoring improves access speeds on copper-based broadband networks by adding reverse crosstalk noise to cancel signal noise, thus boosting copper access speeds to over 100 Mbps (see “Ikanos NodeScale Vectoring improves DSL performance”). However, Huawei says the complexity of vector computing has limited existing vectoring systems to support only 384 access lines. Through a specialized vectoring algorithm, powerful vectoring processing, and node level vectoring (NLV) technology, the new MA5600T enables access capacity of up to 896 lines, Huawei says.

In addition to working at an exchange site, MA5600T can also be deployed in an outdoor fiber to the cabinet (FTTC) architecture to provide large-capacity vectoring capability.

The MA5600T will support copper-based line cards (including xDSL, POTS, and combinations) and optical fiber-based cards (including Gigabit Ethernet, GPON, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and 10G GPON). Huawei's MA5600T shares its vectoring service boards with the mid-size MA5603T, improving the backplane capacity of converged optical and copper access platforms to 8.8 Tbps.

You Yiyong, president of Huawei’s access product line, said, "Huawei's large-capacity vectoring system can solve the central office DSLAM access speed improvement issue and provide end-to-end, any node ultra-fast broadband access."

As of August 31, 2013, the vendor says it has shipped over 2 million vectoring “service boards” worldwide.
