Broadband Forum, UNH-IOL certify six G.fast products

The Broadband Forum has announced six products as the first to successfully navigate its certification program. The products ran the gauntlet at the forum's approved G.fast test laboratory at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) in accordance with the forum's IR-337 certification test specification. IR-337 addresses baseline performance, stability, and mandatory features and helps demonstrate that certified products will be interoperable.

The Broadband Forum has announced six products as the first to successfully navigate its certification program. IR-337 addresses baseline performance, stability, and mandatory features and helps demonstrate that certified products will be interoperable.

ARRIS, Calix, Huawei, Metanoia, Nokia, and Technicolor offered the products for certification. The products are based on chipsets from either Broadcom, Metanoia, or Sckipio. The certified products are listed on the Broadband Forum's website; they include both distribution point units and customer premises equipment.

"Interoperable standardized G.fast technology is key because it underpins an ability to deliver next generation ultrafast broadband at scale," said Kevin Foster, General Manager, Architecture and Innovation for BT. "Certification to the Broadband Forum's G.fast requirements provides a known level of confidence and will reduce test time for both network operators and their communication provider customers." BT has been among the most aggressive adopters of G.fast, particularly for outside plant applications (see, for example, "Openreach taps Huawei, Nokia for G.fast roll-out").
