Iskratel has unveiled a four-port XGS-PON optical line terminal (OLT) blade for its SI3000 Lumia broadband-access platform. The blade supply a split ration of 1:512, which means a fully equipment SI300 Lumia can support up to 32,678 users from a single MEC chassis.
The OLT blade is compatible with other members of Iskratel’s PON OLT portfolio, meaning they are available to support platform requirements from 1RU to the biggest MEC chassis of the SI3000 Lumia OLT. The company envisions the XGS-PON blade serving use cases across residential, business, and backhaul and from high-density urban environments to low-density rural settings.
Thanks to onboard network processors, the OLT blade operates in a flow-based mode and support an evolution to software-defined access. The design supports upgrade via software, which removes the need for hardware replacement, the company states. Such upgrades can include turning the OLT into fully virtualized pOLT with vOLT software running in the cloud.
"We are pleased to launch our XGS-PON OLT blade for SI3000 Lumia which operators can utilise and deploy in a host of urban and rural environments,” said Matjaž Aljančič, director of Business Unit Broadband at Iskratel. “Specifically, Iskratel's PON portfolio has already proven itself in the RUNE (Rural Network) project, which will connect around 350,000 households in rural Slovenia and Croatia, and XGS-PON deployment is due later this year.”
