March 4, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- Fiberxon, a developer of telecommunications components, is now offering serial transceivers and subsystems designed for Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GE-PON) point-to-multipoint applications. The GE-PON OLT and ONU transceivers support symmetrical 1.25 Gbit/sec upstream and downstream data rates, working at 1310 nm and 1490 nm wavelengths, respectively. The transceivers, in SFF and SFP form factors, are compliant with IEEE 802.3ah standards, and are suitable for different system architectures in Px10 and Px20 applications.

Configuring the OLT and ONU transceivers in pairs, a system can achieve more than 29 dB upstream and downstream power budgets, and can support more than 20 dB system level dynamic range. The GE-PON ONU subsystems include 100/1000Base-T user network interface (UNI) ONU, and triple play ONU. The 100/1000Base-T UNI ONU subsystem is designed for ONU side application. This subsystem supports 1.25Gbit/sec symmetrical upstream and downstream data rates, and provides a 100/1000Base-T user interface.

The modules' triple play sub-system provides all functions of the 100/1000Base-T UNI ONU subsystem as well as video overlay. It enables ONU side receiving 1490nm digital signals and 1550nm video optical signals, and transmission of 1310nm digital signals.

According to the company, its GE-PON family of transceivers also supports "plug-and-play" abilities of auto-discovery and configuration, advanced QoS to enable billing by Service Level Agreement, secure access via Access Control List, and remote management with advanced OAM functions.

The products will be on display at next week's OFC/NFOEC conference in the company's booth 1263.
