OCTOBER 5, 2006 -- TelStrat (search TelStrat) this week introduced a new, fully hardened 2.4-Gbit/sec GPON (search GPON) addition to the company's Inteleflex Broadband Loop Carrier product platform.
Designed to exceed the most demanding converged communications and entertainment service delivery requirements, these 2.4 GPON products enable service providers to offer not just voice, data, and IPTV, but high-definition programming, video-on-demand, and advanced interactive communications, say TelStrat representatives. The company's 2.4 GPON offerings include dual- and quad-port optical line terminal (OLT) cards that fit into available slots in the Inteleflex chassis, as well as a family of modular, field-configurable optical network terminals (ONTs). The new OLT cards are fully hardened, making them suitable for both central office and remote deployments.
"2.4 GPON is the future of fiber-to-the-premises technology," contends Sid Schmid, vice president and general manager of TelStrat's Access Business Group. "TelStrat is leading the industry in getting this technology into the hands of our customers so they can build revenue with advanced video and IP- based services."
The new 2.4-Gbit/sec GPON OLT cards embrace a standards-based model, allowing comprehensive management and interoperability with third-party ONTs, report company representatives. Support for GPON Encapsulation Mode (GEM) means the GPON link can natively carry both Ethernet and traditionalITDM traffic with strict quality-of-service (QoS).
With their fully integrated IGMP v1/v2 multicasting and management, TelStrat's new OLT cards offer optimized IPTV delivery for both standard and HD programming, say company representatives. Of special note is the OLT cards'I10-Gbit/sec redundant backplane interface. Additionally, it features a built-in 10-Gbit/sec front panel fiber connection. This ultra bandwidth IP interface is ideal for use with centralized video-on-demand (VoD) and other high bandwidth applications, explain TelStrat representatives.
TelStrat's new family of ONTs contains models with a mix of two or four POTS lines combined with Ethernet only or combined with Ethernet and CATV. Available, field-installable expansion modules provide additional support for Ethernet, Home Phoneline Network Alliance (HPNA V.3), and T1/Async-T1 interfaces. This enables service providers to deploy POTS, Ethernet, and even CATV overlays today, then easily plug in additional interface capabilities when desired.
Missouri-based Alma Communications Company recently chose TelStrat's Inteleflex Broadband Loop Carrier Platform for an edge-to-edge rebuild of its access network, becoming the first customer for TelStrat's newA2.4-Gbit/sec GPON technology. Andy Heins, general manager of Alma Communications Company, outlined his company's reasons for selecting TelStrat's Inteleflex. "We wanted to be able to provide our customers with the platform to access both traditional and advanced communications solutions," he says. "TelStrat's Inteleflex will allow us to easily transition from a copper infrastructure to fiber and will provide the most advanced fiber-to-the-premises technology available today."
