March 15, 2005 Norcross, GA -- Cable Pacifico, a provider of cable television and broadband services in Colombia, has selected OFS, a manufacturer and supplier of fiber-optic products, to provide 1,000 km of the company's AllWave Zero Water Peak (ZWP) optical fiber housed in its PowerGuide TTH cable, in order to upgrade and maintain the provider's telecommunication network.

"This investment will not only allow our company to satisfy the quality and coverage requirements of our existing customers, but will also interconnect 60 other municipalities in the western region of Colombia, including the departments of Narino, Valle, Cauca, Choco, Caldas, Risaralada, Quindio, and Antioquia," explains Juan Gonzalo Angel, president of Cable Pacifico. "This build-out will also generate 350 new jobs in the area."

According to a press release, the fiber installation will not only increase voice and data capacity in areas already served by the provider, but will also allow the provider to offer significantly more bandwidth than its competitors in Colombia.

"AllWave ZWP fiber provides a 50% increase in usable optical spectrum as compared with standard single mode fiber," notes Paul Neuhart, President of OFS.

The cabling will be provided through the company's distributor, AGS Enterprises, based in Miami, Florida.

OFS is the former Optical Fiber Solutions division of Lucent Technologies.
