March 21, 2005 Cambridge, UK - Polatis, a developer of direct optical beam steering technology used to produce photonic switching platforms, has expanded its product range. Employing its patented Micro-Actuation Sensing System (MASS) and Direct Beam Steering (DBS) technology, used in its 16x16 optical switch, the company has introduced the following products:

* A 32x32 low loss optical switch, available in both symmetric (NxN) and asymmetric (NxM) formats.

* A multimode optical switch, available as a 16x16 Tray and OEM module for 50- micron or 62.5-micron core fiber, designed to provide low-loss optical matrix switching for enterprise networks and other multimode applications.

* Instrumentation-grade variable optical attenuation and power monitoring made available as options across the company's entire optical switch range, whereby a user can set either attenuation per switch path, or maximum power per output port, via graphical user interface. This functionality is integrated into a 19-inch rack-mounted tray, enabling simplification of test and measurement infrastructure, according to the company.

The company has also launched a series of optical switch cards in standard 4x4, 4x8, 8x8, and reconfigurable formats. These cards are available in 3U or 6U form factors, for use in standard PXI/VXI racks. The company says the cards' simple binary control protocol can be easily adapted to accommodate customer-specific system interfaces.

"The strong demand for our current products, the extended market reach afforded by our recently announced distribution agreement with JDS Uniphase, and this expansion of our product range provide an outstanding opportunity to accelerate the growth of Polatis," remarks Dave Lewis, CEO of Polatis.
