Anchorage, AK, has reached an agreement with Sydney, Australia-based World Net Communications Inc. and some of its affiliates that will enable Alaska Northstar to construct and implement a submarine fiber-optic cable telecommunications system linking Alaska to the Pacific Northwest. Called Northstar Cable, the system will include landing points in Whittier, Juneau, and Valdez, AK. The 2100-mi project began last month and is expected to begin service by the end of next year.
