San Diego, CA, and Essential Communications, Albuquerque, NM, have successfully transmitted Gigabit Ethernet packets between devices using different silicon solutions. Packets traveled via fiber-optic cable between network interface cards supplied by Essential Communications and a multiport full-duplex buffered distributor produced by xlnt. The companies say this is the first successful demonstration of Gigabit Ethernet transmission between multivendor equipment using disparate silicon solutions.
