6 December 2002 -- New Jersey-based Tellium Inc is expanding its operations in Europe by opening a sales office in Paris, joining offices in London and Brussels.

Tellium says that it delivers high-speed, high-capacity, intelligent core optical solutions, including the Aurora Optical Switch family and the StarNet Software Suite, which offer a migration path to next-generation public networks.

Tellium has hired Frederic Esbert as area vice president for sales. Esbert has 14 years of experience in telecoms. From 1996 to 2002 he was country manager then regional sales director, France and Belgium, for Tellabs SAS. Before joining Tellabs, he was sales director for Xylogics France and, from 1988 to 1994, he held engineering and sales positions with Gandalf SA, the French subsidiary of Gandalf Technologies Inc. Esbert is a graduate of the Executive MBA program at the Institut Francais de Gestion.

"His knowledge about the business and his many contacts with potential new customers will help us to be positioned to capture new business when the turnaround in telecom capital spending begins," says Mark McCoy, Tellium's senior vice president, worldwide sales.
