CaroNet, Raleigh, NC, a subsidiary of Carolina Power & Light (cp&l), has acquired Capitol Information Services Inc., a provider of Internet services called Interpath. The result is a new cp&l subsidiary called Interpath Communications. CaroNet has marketed access to cp&l?s fiber-optic telecommunications network, which includes an 850-mi fiber network in the Carolinas with connections to a 4700-route-mi alliance network throughout the Southeast. CaroNet?s OC-48 (2.5-Gbit/sec) sonet network is used for voice, data, and wireless communications and will provide a transport foundation for Interpath Communications? services.
