Pacific Fiber Link LLC (Blaine, WA) announced that in addition to its 1500-mi terrestrial long-haul fiber-optic network between Seattle, WA, and San Diego, CA, a marine festoon will be added that will run from northern Oregon to San Diego. The festoon will be a 96-fiber, 1300-mi submarine cable with 15 shore landing points and will be linked to the terrestrial systems at six locations between Seattle and San Diego. Pacific expects completion of the terrestrial portion by early 1999 and implementation of the marine festoon system later that year.
