7 November 2003 Sunnyvale, CA Lightwave -- Maxim Integrated Products is introducing the MAX3645 200-Mbit/sec limiting amplifier. The device is pin compatible with the MC2045-2Y post-amp and provides increased sensitivity and loss of signal stability.
Operating from 3V to 5.5V supplies, the MAX3644 and MAX3645 form a 2-chip solution for 125-Mbit/sec Ethernet, 155-Mbit/sec SONET, and fiber-to-the-x optical receiver modules. The MAX3645 is available in 16-pin small outline and quarter-size outline packages and can be used as a drop-in replacement for the MC2045.
The MAX3645 has a guaranteed 500mV single-ended input sensitivity and 750mV single-ended overload. It provides a positive-referenced emitter-coupled logic, loss of signal with programmable thresholds. Unlike the MC2045, the signal-detect assert and deassert levels in the MAX3645 remain constant over all supply voltages. The limiting amplifier has input-referred noise of only 36mV root-mean-square and 0.7-nsec edge transition times. The MAX3645 is compatible with 4B/5B coded data and is optimized to provide symmetrical outputs to help reduce electromagnetic interference.
The limiting amplifier operates over an extended temperature range (-40º to 85ºC). Prices start at $0.80 (100,000-up, freight on board, USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs. A preliminary data sheet for this product is available on the Web at http://www.maxim-ic.com/PRGraphics/PRPDF/MAX3645DS.pdf.
