25 April 2003 Bedford, MA Lightwave -- Avvio Networks has debuted a 640-km DWDM EML laser addition to its A1010 options. The company also introduced its A1070 EDFA, a variable gain line amplifier with up to 25 dB of gain and automatic transient suppression.

The A1070's gain-transient suppression minimizes transmission penalties as channels are added and dropped in the network, or as input power varies. The A1070 is powerful enough to support up to 40 channels at full gain, says the company. It can be managed through the local serial port, Telnet or SNMP.

Ready-to-run right out of the box, according to Avvio, the A1010 and A1070 simplify and speed network installation. They each occupy a single rack unit (1.75 inches) in a 19-inch chassis. The A1010 and A1070 can be used in conjunction with Avvio Networks' A15XX passive OADM for a complete end-to-end solution.
