Reliant Energy Communications selects Micromuse Netcool Suite

Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), a provider of real-time fault management and service assurance software, announced that Reliant Energy Communications, a unit of Reliant Energy (NYSE: REI), has selected the Netcool suite to provide real-time monitoring of its hosting facilities and fiber-optic network infrastructure. Reliant Energy Communications is a provider of complex Web hosting services and data solutions for business customers in major markets in Texas.

Reliant Energy Communications is integrating Micromuse's flagship Netcool/OMNIbus application as the core network management component for its co-location facilities, Internet and telecommunications infrastructure. Additionally, the Netcool Reporter application and the Netcool Firewall application will enhance Reliant Energy Communication's managed Web services from server and database administration to managed firewall and backup services. By collecting and consolidating real-time event, alarm, and alert information, the Netcool suite proactively identifies and addresses infrastructure problems often before reliability and performance are affected. The system will support Reliant Energy Communications' new Internet Data Centers in Houston and in Austin. These facilities include private access space, locked rack space, and multiple direct Internet backbone connections via independent fiber carriers with redundant building entry points.

Micromuse's Netcool software suite collects management data from more than 300 management environments and network devices, including voice, data and Internet. Fault data is rapidly processed and filtered by the Netcool ObjectServer, an in-memory database. The Netcool suite helps operators to build views of service availability in real-time, helping them manage networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, the Netcool suite helps service providers expand their networks as their markets grow.
