To help SONET-based metro carriers satisfy their customers' demand for native-mode Ethernet transport, White Rock Networks has added a cost-effective solution to its SONET product family: full line-rate Gigabit Ethernet (GigE).
In addition to breaking size, power, intelligence and cost barriers in the delivery of services from DS3 to OC-48, White Rock claims that the smallest OC-192 SONET add/drop multiplexer (ADM) -- the VLX2020 -- can deliver multiple "wire-speed" GigE interfaces over SONET while retaining the reliability and manageability of carriers' existing SONET-based networks.
White Rock's initial products include the VLX2010 -- a one-rack-unit high SONET OC-48 ADM, and the VLX2020, which provides full OC-192 SONET ADM capability in just two rack units of space. Both products offer fully protected, carrier-class functionality, including Network Equipment Building Standards (NEBS) Level 3 compliance.
White Rock is exhibiting its products at the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) 2001 in Booth No. 6053, July 8-12, at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
