Hong Kong link

Hong Kong Telecom, whose majority shareholder is Cable & Wireless in the United Kingdom, is working with China`s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to build a 3000-kilometer fiber-optic cable network that will link Hong Kong and Beijing. The network is expected to be running by the end of 1996. The synchronous digital hierarchy-based fiber-optic system will stretch from Beijing to Guangzhou and will connect 80 towns and cities, including Jinjiang. In Guangzhou, the system will connect with the Guangzhou-to-Hong Kong 622-megabit-per-second fiber system built by Hong Kong Telecom and Guangdong Posts and Telecommunications Bureau.
