Fiber-tubing patent

Fiberstars Inc., Fremont, CA, has been awarded its fifth patent for lateral emission of light from cabled fiber-optic tubing. This invention covers fiber-optic tubing, which uses a proprietary technique to microbend clear-quality optical fibers into specifically sized bundles. The bundles are then twisted and drawn through a clear outer Lexan tube in custom lengths. This process enhances light output over ordinary fiber-optic tubing, according to company claims. The company`s other patents include a reflector that focuses light into the fiber-optic strands to maximize lumen levels and a thermal processing system that protects optical fibers from either light source or ambient heat.
