Fiber media converter

Model 372 100Base-T to fiber media converter operates at 200 Mbits/sec over 2 km. It provides network connections that are safe from ground loops, power surges, lightning strikes and electrical interference. The device allows Fast Ethernet switches or 100Base-TX terminal equipment to connect via fiber-optic link segments. These can be extended to 400 meters, whereas the current 100Base-TX standard limits copper link segments to 100 meters without the use of repeaters. The converter lets two 100Base-TX-compliant ports to be connected by multimode, 62.5/125-micron cable, while preserving and translating collision information from one segment to another. Three versions are available: Model 372 contains SC fiber connectors, measures 50.8 ¥ 76.2 ¥ 25.4 mm and costs $349. It can be used in full-duplex networks with fiber segments up to 500 meters. Model 372ST has ST fiber connectors and also costs $349. The 372LHST long-haul version offers 2-km performance with ST connectors and costs $379.
