DECEMBER 11, 2006 -- APCON Inc. (search for APCON) and Calient Networks (search for Calient Networks) will offer an integrated offering for lab testing and automation using APCON TITAN software as a single platform for management of APCON's OEO (optical-electronic-optical) switches and Calient's all-optical (OOO) switches.

The partnership is designed to eliminate many of the complexities associated with multiple software interfaces for device control and lab automation. Through TITAN, a user can remotely manage and control lab resources connected to both APCON and Calient switches using a drag-and-drop virtual canvas that further simplifies device connections through graphical representation, APCON says. Users can create an unlimited number of device connections called a topology that can be saved, recalled and shared. This should increase the repeatability of lab test topologies, the company believes.

"As a result of this partnership, APCON can now offer TITAN as an integrated software platform for test lab environments using both OOO and OEO switches," says Richard Rauch, APCON president and CEO. "The TITAN software platform provides advanced testing and automation capabilities with a pricing and licensing structure that is more cost-effective than anything available to the lab environment."

"The manufacturing and design breakthroughs that make this capability as affordable as a manual patch panel for service providers is ideal in lab environments," said Charles Corbalis, CEO and president of Calient Networks. "Our solutions will speed test time and accelerate revenue for test labs by offering efficiency and flexibility."

With test lab requirements becoming more diverse, a single software platform supporting a wide range of test requirements becomes essential, APCON asserts. Equally important is the need for intelligent fiber management that can seamlessly handle the lowest level optical connection all the way to 40 Gbits/sec, any protocol, any wavelength. The combined APCON/Calient offering decreases testing costs, reduces testing times, and accelerates product time to market, the company says.
