DECEMBER 7, 2006 -- OpVista Inc. (search for OpVista) today announced that it has received certification with the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) branch of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for its OpVista2000 optical transport system.

"The OpVista2000 is ideally suited for IOC deployment with its low first cost and extreme scalability, as well as its cost-effective flexibility and reconfigurability," contends Jeff DeLazaro, vice president of North American sales. "Our solution allows IOCs to deploy a highly capable next-generation system without paying a CAPEX or OPEX premium for the ability to respond quickly to new bandwidth intensive service opportunities. We are pleased to receive RUS certification and to deliver our solution to additional customers," he adds.

Rural carriers face a variety of challenges in their network deployments. RUS provides low interest loans to further the development of the rural utility infrastructure, which allows carriers to economically scale networks to reach remote areas, providing an improved quality of life for subscribers. The loans are frequently relied upon by Independent Operating Companies (IOCs) for the build out of networks, including deployments of voice-over-IP (VoIP), IPTV, and distance learning/telemedicine.

According to the company, its OpVista2000 optical transport system is ideal for rural carriers looking for the most economical option for their network deployments. The system provides the ability to add capacity for new services while maintaining existing network infrastructure and reducing operating expenses.
