February 7, 2006 Hayward, CA -- Competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) Parker FiberNet (Summerville, GA) is using Terawave Communications' passive optical networking (PON) platform to provide voice, data, and private line services to business customers in and around the city of Athens, Georgia. Parker FiberNet operates a 75-mile SONET fiber ring around the city; the PON platform replaces a previous fiber modem system, providing more services on fewer fibers, according to the CLEC.
"The Terawave solution is extremely flexible, allowing us to offer Ethernet, DS1, and voice services on one platform," comments David Parker, manager of Parker FiberNet. "They have ONTs [optical network terminals] to meet pretty much any customer service mix, and have provided outstanding customer support."
According to a press release, the CLEC has placed the company's TW-600 OLTs at their SONET nodes, delivering symmetrical PON broadband services over 622 Mbit/sec to multiple subscribers on a single fiber.
"The system is very easy to manage, and allows us to offer our services at an extremely competitive price," offers Jason Ware, director of technology for Parker FiberNet.
"The QOS and bandwidth shaping replaces several other pieces of gear, and provides seamless management of the network," concludes Donald Bing, director of engineering for Parker FiberNet. "This is our first experience with PON, and we couldn't be happier with the system or the vendor."
