MARCH 13, 2007 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (search for Oki Electric Industry) has developed two models of receiver optical sub-assembly (ROSA)-type optical receiver modules. These modules are designed for use in 10-Gbit/sec Miniature Device Multi-Source Agreement (XMD-MSA) applications that are compliant with the 10-Gbit/sec small form-factor pluggable XFP used to establish high-speed LAN and metro networks. Oki says it will offer samples starting today.

The expanding volume of data transmission over the Internet has led to the development of 10G ROSA (search for ) module receivers and transmitters that are compliant with XFP, an industry standard for 10-Gbit/sec optical transmission over long-distance backbone and interim distance in metro areas. In order to expand the transmission capability while using existing equipment, an easy-to-install small-receptacle reception module is required, say Oki representatives.

"We have been providing the widely used optical receiver modules compliant with MSA for surface mounted packaging-type 10-Gbit optical receivers," confirms Masayuki Tsuboi, president of the Optical Component Company at Oki Electric Industry. "However, with the expected increase in demand for a ROSA-type receiver, we developed the ROSA-type receiver module for XMD-MSA compliant with XFP. Samples of this receiver will be provided worldwide and during the fiscal year ending March 2008, we aim to sell 60,000 of these two modules by promoting them for use in various kinds of optical transmission equipment," he says.

OKI's 10-Gbit ROSA-type receiver module will be displayed at Oki's booth (#3351) at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exposition and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOE), which will be held in Anaheim, CA, from March 27-29, 2007.
