Chinese utility chooses ECI Telecom for network expansion
NOVEMBER 6, 2007 -- Henan Power, China's fifth-largest power utility, has selected ECI Telecom (search for ECI Telecom) to expand its optical transmission network. The new network will provide greater communication capacity to Henan Power's power plants throughout the southern cities of the Henan Province.
ECI Telecom is supporting Henan Power as it promotes more efficient energy and it moves away from air-polluting sources of energy. Henan Power has closed down several coal plants, and expects to build nearly 200 new efficient power factories.
The deal comes as the result of a five-year plan to create an advanced next-generation transmission network for Henan Power, and ECI was chosen as the supplier for the South Ring, covering 11 cities in Henan province. Deployments began last year. ECI's XDM-1000 Multi-Service Transport Platform (MSTP) was deployed, supplying integrated SDH and Ethernet services over both 2.5 and 10 Gbits/ec for over 200 km, depending upon each plant's bandwidth needs and locations.
Henan Power will be deploying the XDM's new family of Carrier Ethernet line cards announced in November 2006. They provide Henan with Layer 1 and Layer 2 Ethernet services with software migration to MPLS.
"Henan province is the most populous province in China. It is very important for us that the new optical communication network be built upon reliable and scalable equipment so that our plants, which supply millions of residents with power, run smoothly and efficiently," said Lin S.X., vice general manager of Henan Power. "After evaluating all the major suppliers, we found that ECI met our requirements, allowing us to cost-effectively build the network and enable us to provide our plants with greater network bandwidth."
The network is managed by ECI's LightSoft multi-layer network management system.
