March 10, 2004 Edmonton, Alberta -- Kanotech Information Systems recently unveiled its Communication Networks Fiber Engineering and Drafting (CommNets Fiber) software, which enables companies to simultaneously engineer fiber outside plant, draft fiber outside plant, and capture fiber outside plant source data for mass distribution of fiber infrastructure.

An integral part of a suite of products for firms that have RF and/or fiber-optic networks, CommNets Fiber is one of many applications in the CommNets Suite that facilitates end-to-end connectivity of the entire infrastructure network for both inside and outside plant, upholds the premise of a single point of entry for each type of data, and enables enterprise wide distribution of data, say company representatives.

While a user is engineering fiber outside plant, CommNets Fiber is populating a database that holds all the information about the fiber infrastructure. In addition to storing the data attributes of each fiber infrastructure asset, CommNets Fiber also maintains detailed information on connectivity between objects. Drafters are able to do this using the set of fiber tools included with the application that simplify the fiber outside plant design process and provide standards to drafters/contractors performing design.

CommNets Fiber is a "shrink-wrapped" solution; broadband companies are able to quickly implement and begin to realize a return on their investment in a short period of time. Although the application is ready to go out of the box, the robust set of CAD standards that are included with CommNets Fiber can be easily replaced or modified to meet customers' needs through the configurable control database. No programming is required to make changes to the CAD standards; drawings that are produced using CommNets Fiber are of a much higher quality because of their compliance to customer CAD standards, explain company representatives.
