Hyperion Communications (Coudersport, PA) will install high-capacity dense wavelength-division

Hyperion Communications (Coudersport, PA) will install high-capacity dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) optical networking equipment on its eastern U.S. fiber-optic network through a $200-million agreement with Lucent Technologies (Murray Hill, NJ). Hyperion will install Lucent`s WaveStar OLS 400G system, designed to boost networks incrementally from 1 to 80 wavelengths and provide up to 400-Gbit/sec capacity over a single fiber strand. The agreement is the second major contract between Hyperion and Lucent, following a multimillion dollar contract that placed Lucent`s 5ESS Switching System throughout Hyperion`s 9000-mi communications network
