Brightspeed, Comcast, C Spire, Fastbridge, Fidium, Greenlight Networks, Lumos Networks and Omni Fiber are all expanding broadband in various communities through a mix of venture capital and state funding sources.
Brightspeed completes fiber network construction in Butler, Hyndman and Roaring Springs, PA
Brightspeed has wrapped construction of its fiber network build in Butler, Hyndman and Roaring Springs, Pennsylvania. Now, more than 21,000 families and businesses in those communities have access to gigabit broadband speeds. Already, nearly 164,000 locations are fiber-enabled, and once the company’s full fiber network buildout in the state is complete, almost 213,000 families and small businesses will have access to Brightspeed’s multi-gig-speed fiber internet service.
Comcast brings broadband and Lift Zone to McDuffie County, Georgia
Comcast has completed a broadband expansion project in McDuffie County, Georgia, bringing reliable, high-speed Internet, mobile and security services from Xfinity and Comcast Business to residents and businesses for the first time. This investment represents Comcast's ongoing commitment to closing the digital divide in communities across the Southeast. Comcast employees and elected officials cut the ribbon at the opening of the Lift Zone at the McDuffie County Boys & Girls Club.
C Spire lights fiber in two new Marion County, Mississippi, fiberhoods
C Spire announced its fiber-based broadband service will soon be available in two Marion County fiberhoods. The expansion will deliver connectivity to more than 130 residents, unlocking new opportunities in education, commerce, healthcare, and more. Construction in the first fiberhood starts mid-August, while building in the second neighborhood gets underway in late September. Construction in both fiberhoods will be completed later this fall. C Spire began offering fiber service in Columbia in July 2024 and has operated a wireless retail location in Columbia for many years.
FastBridge Fiber sets up its fiber broadband shop in Erie, PA
FastBridge Fiber is expanding its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet network to Erie, Pennsylvania. This strategic launch will bring fiber internet to thousands of homes in many of Erie County's most densely populated areas, including the City of Erie and Harborcreek Township. The expansion into Erie is part of FastBridge Fiber's growing investment in fiber internet infrastructure across Pennsylvania and New York, with service available in Buffalo and several Pennsylvania communities, including Bloomsburg, Danville, Williamsport, and many neighborhoods in Berks County.
Fidium enhances fiber footprint in Maine’s Aroostook County
Fidium is expanding its fiber network in Aroostook County, bringing symmetrical internet to 1,300 homes and businesses in Aroostook County, including in Sherman, Stacyville, and parts of Benedicta Township, as well as Grand Isle. Fiber infrastructure construction is scheduled to begin as soon as August 15, with exact start dates varying by location. Today, more than 385,000 Maine homes and businesses have access to Fidium, including Fort Fairfield, Caribou and Madawaska. In 2024, a collaborative partnership between Fidium, the Greater East Grand Region Economic Council and the Sunrise County Economic Council resulted in more than 2,000 residents and businesses in 19 area communities being connected to high-speed fiber internet service.
Greenlight Networks advances fiber rollout on Rochester’s west side
Greenlight Networks is accelerating its fiber internet expansion plans across Rochester in 2025, including announcing several new buildouts in towns on the west side. Representing a $30 million investment, Greenlight is rapidly expanding its network footprint into new neighborhoods located throughout Greece, Gates, Chili and Hilton. Currently, over 135,000 homes are connected to the network, 40,000 households of which are across Rochester’s west side, including the towns of Greece, Gates, Chili, as well as the villages of Spencerport and Hilton.
Lumos deepens Ohio fiber footprint into Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties
Lumos has begun its fifth large-scale expansion in Ohio, bringing ultra-fast fiber internet to Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties. As part of this initiative, Lumos will build nearly 3,000 miles of new fiber infrastructure. Lumos, now part of T-Mobile Fiber, is expanding its fiber network to more than 226,000 addresses across 27 cities and communities, including Lorain, Elyria, City of Amherst, Amherst Township, Avon, Avon Lake, Lyndhurst, South Euclid, Mayfield Heights, and Cleveland Heights. The network will provide service to consumers and businesses via T-Mobile Fiber, in addition to large companies and bulk multi-dwelling unit (MDU) complexes, which will be under the Lumos brand. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2025.
Omni Fiber expands fiber internet Service into Pennsylvania, Michigan and additional Ohio markets
Omni Fiber is bringing its fiber broadband service to multiple new markets across Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania. As part of this expansion, Omni Fiber is investing over $465 million to establish a multi-gigabit fiber Internet network for homes and businesses in these and other growing communities. Construction has already begun in many of these markets and service installations are underway this summer and will continue over the months to come.
