Building Broadband: BroadbandOne and Ripple Broadband jointly deliver fixed wireless to Pensacola; Comcast is extending broadband to an additional 10K Blair County, PA locations
Broadband One, Comcast, Gigapower, Greenlight Networks, IdeaTek, Mediacom and Ripple Fiber are all expanding broadband in various communities through a mix of venture capital and state funding sources.
BroadbandOne and Ripple Broadband jointly deliver fixed wireless to Pensacola
BroadbandOne (BB1) has joined up with Ripple Fiber to bring wireless internet to residents, businesses, and hospitality destinations across Florida's Gulf Coast. The partnership marks a key step in BroadbandOne's expansion into high-demand regional markets through its Telco as a Service (TaaS) model. The collaboration allows Ripple Broadband to leverage BroadbandOne's licensed spectrum, core wireless infrastructure, and strategic tower assets — including key coverage zones across Pensacola and other Gulf Coast areas. The result is a high-speed network capable of serving multi-dwelling units (MDUs), hotels, and vacation properties. The Pensacola deployment is part of BroadbandOne's broader Southeast expansion, with additional Florida markets under evaluation.
Comcast is extending broadband to an additional 10K Blair County, PA locations
Comcast has connected more than 10,000 new homes and businesses to gigabit internet in Blair County, PA, with new builds in the City of Altoona and Logan Township. Communities from Eldorado and Mill Run to Lakemont and just north of Prospect Park have now joined the more than 64 million homes and businesses nationwide with access to Xfinity and Comcast Business products and services that fuel innovation, productivity, and everyday connection. This milestone represents major progress toward ultimately connecting nearly 30,000 additional homes and businesses across the City of Altoona and Logan Township. It builds on the momentum of recent expansion into Blair Township, Allegheny Township, Duncansville Borough and Hollidaysburg Borough.
Gigapower deepens MDU reach with Flume agreement
Gigapower has piloted an arrangement with Flume, an ISP specializing in multi-family dwelling units (MDUs), to broaden access and consumer choice to Gigapower’s fiber network. As an ISP on Gigapower’s network, Flume will offer managed Wi-Fi internet service or fiber to the unit directly to individuals and families residing in multi-family properties. The engagement with Flume has launched in Mesa, Arizona, where Gigapower has been building its high-speed open access network since 2023.
Greenlight Networks expands fiber Internet across Northeast PA
Greenlight Networks is accelerating its investment and network buildout across Northeastern Pennsylvania. On the heels of the acquisition of Loop Internet last month, Greenlight announced several new expansions within the Northeast Pennsylvania region, including the Boroughs of Blakely and Throop. Blakely Borough has signed a municipal agreement with Greenlight, securing fiber connectivity for eight community buildings, including the Borough Office, DPW Garage, Electrical Switchgear Station, Blakely Hose Co. No. 2, and Wilson Fire. Co. No. 1, Blakely Borough Community Ambulance, and both the Blakely Borough Community Center and the Blakely Borough Recreation Complex. Greenlight’s regional expansion is progressing rapidly, with thousands of homes and businesses already connected or under construction throughout Lackawanna County. In Blakely, residents can expect construction to begin in early 2026, with more areas to be announced in the coming months. Following the acquisition of Loop Internet, the provider is also accelerating its investment and network buildout across the Scranton market. Over the past several months, service has become available in multiple new neighborhoods across West and South Scranton. The company has also continued its momentum across Kingston, Wilkes-Barre, and Mountain Top, strengthening Greenlight’s regional footprint across Luzerne County.
IdeaTek and Parsons Chamber of Commerce celebrated $8 million fiber internet expansion
IdeaTek and the Parsons Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated IdeaTek’s $8 million investment to bring up to 8 Gbps fiber internet to the city. The Buhler-based internet provider will deliver unlimited, uncapped speeds of up to 8 gigabits per second, unmatched across most of Kansas and far surpassing what other providers can offer. Once complete, the project will connect nearly 5,000 homes and businesses.
Mediacom Communications launches multi-gig, symmetrical speed services in the Quad Cities
Mediacom Communications has begun launching multi-gig and symmetrical speed broadband services in the Quad Cities area, including Moline, East Moline and Rock Island, Illinois, as well as Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa. The cable operator has begun activating the new network on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis, with nearly 30,000 homes already upgraded. Mediacom expects to complete all areas in the Quad Cities market by the end of next year. Utilizing the new platform, customers will be able to choose from the following Xtream Internet offerings from Mediacom: 300/100 Mbps, 1 Gbps symmetrical, and a 2 Gbps/1 Gbps speed tier. Mediacom will also continue to offer a low-cost broadband plan called Xtream Connect with speeds of 100/20 Mbps.
Ripple Fiber lights fiber internet service to Elk Grove Village, Illinois
Ripple Fiber is now launching high-speed fiber internet service to its first residents in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Representing the provider’s initial project in the state, the first 5,000 households are expected to have live service over the next few months. The build-out of the project is progressing well, and Ripple Fiber will continue to pursue expansion opportunities to extend its footprint throughout Illinois. Earlier this year, Ripple Fiber broke ground in Elk Grove Village, beginning the buildout of its initial $104 million project. Residents in nearby areas of Naperville, Streamwood, Joliet, and Aurora can expect to receive direct communications and notifications of launch events ahead of the planned construction activity across multiple neighborhoods in 2026.
