Calix: Intelligent Access Solution

Calix’s Intelligent Access Solution enables service providers to deploy, operate, and scale their broadband networks more easily and cost-effectively as their businesses grow.

Calix added two new capabilities to its portfolio that help service providers deliver highly available services and quickly and cost-effectively extend services to new areas: geo-redundant PON protection and distributed PON Access. Geo-redundant PON access provides high resiliency for broadband services by enabling PON protection across two geographically diverse optical line terminal (OLT) nodes. These nodes are connected to a standard fiber distribution cabinet, ensuring service continuity even if one node fails. Broadband providers can deliver differentiated premium services to businesses and community emergency services. Distributed PON Access extends the E9-2 High-Density OLT architecture by allowing PON shelves to be deployed remotely while maintaining centralized control. This design leverages optical extension to connect remote shelves to the central control shelf, enabling rapid and cost-effective network expansion.

Judge’s comment: “This solution showcases features that support the evolution of PON networks from best efforts to ones with high reliability requirements for scenarios ranging from residential to enterprise.”
