ADVA Optical Networking offers NFV demarcation systems

June 16, 2015
ADVA Optical Networking has expanded its play in software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) with the ADVA FSP 150-GE110Pro Series of network interface devices (NIDs). The NIDs are designed to help service providers roll out NFV-based services in a way that emphasizes openness, security, and service assurance.

The ADVA FSP 150-GE110Pro Series combines Carrier Ethernet 2.0 and IP services demarcation in a single network element. The NID also benefits from the ADVA ConnectGuard Ethernet security suite.

To maximize its usefulness in NFV-enabled networks, the FSP 150-GE110Pro Series leverages what ADVA describes as "a fully open and standardized architecture" that avoids lock-in to vendor-specific orchestration approaches. The NIDs can either accept virtual network functions (VNFs) from central servers or host VNFs themselves.

ADVA says the FSP 150-GE110Pro Series is in trials with "a number" of network operators. The NIDs should be commercially available later in 2015.
