Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. (FNC) has unveiled the Virtuora NC 3.0 suite of open source network automation and virtualization products. The portfolio, based on an OpenDaylight framework, aims to address multi-layer, multi-vendor software-defined networking (SDN) requirements.

The Virtuora NC suite is designed to provide a distinct separation of applications, controller infrastructure, and southbound interfaces for maximum flexibility, FNC says. The application layer contains control, management, fulfillment, service assurance functions, and northbound interfaces. The southbound interfaces are abstracted via YANG models and XML; they support TL1, NETCONF, and other management protocols and are architected for multivendor support. The OpenDaylight controller infrastructure rests in between. FNC says it has created a variety of abstractions within this infrastructure layer to maximize its capabilities without attaching them to application or device specifications.

Standardized REST-based APIs and standard data-modeling approaches provide access to data stores in the OpenDaylight database, FNC adds.

The suite thus provides an attractive option for carriers who wish to use SDN to improve service creation and time-to-market as well as enhance network performance, FNC asserts. In particular, Virtuora NC will help support Dynamic Service Activation and Service Restoration, Path Computation, and Resource Discovery automation.
