April 12, 2005 Stockholm, Sweden -- Com Hem, an Internet and CATV operator in Sweden, has selected Transmode's network transmission equipment for use in its fiber core network and service platform, in order to deliver broadband services including Internet access, IP telephony, and data backup. According to a press release, the original order was placed with Lumentis, which recently merged with Transmode to form one of Scandinavia's largest vendors of optical network platforms.
With Transmode's MultiService xWDM platform serving as the base of its transport network, the operator expects to lower both its capital and operating costs, noting that the platform provides uniform support for multiple signal formats. According to the release, the platform gives the operator highly scalable access while supporting CWDM, DWDM, and SDH standards, and handling transmission speeds up to 10 Gbit/sec.
"We selected Transmode's technology because of the inherent flexibility in their xWDM platform. It gives us substantial cost benefits," affirms Martin Kull, Com Hem's CTO. "This makes it easy for us to continuously further expand our network and traffic capacity."
"The order from Com Hem is of strategic importance to us," concludes Pär Johansson, director of sales at Transmode. "It confirms Transmode as the market leader within optical network solutions, and further strengthens our position in the Scandinavian market."
