LC duplex connector system suitable for harsh industrial apps
April 29, 2005 Lisle, IL -- Molex says its Optical Industrial LC Duplex connector system combines the high performance of a fiber-optic connection with the versatility of a rugged industrial connector, to enable easy installation and termination in harsh industrial environments.
The company says the system's assemblies ensure environmentally sealed optical connections with push-pull insertion capability and bayonet-style mechanical latches. The bulkhead adapter's sealed panel, feed-through design enables easy installation into enclosures; the removable connector provides sealing between both the adapter mating surface, as well as the cable exiting the connector, according to the company.
The connector system works with standard fiber types and is available in both singlemode and multimode formats. Offering moisture and dust protection and a -40 to +85°C temperature range, the system is suitable for indoor and outdoor industrial applications including system controls, monitoring, and high electro-magnetic interference (EMI) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) areas. According to the company, the system is also suitable for medical equipment applications, telecommunications/CATV applications including FTTX and outdoor system connections, as well as test equipment, mobile broadcasting, audio visual equipment, and food processing applications.
The company says the assemblies are 100% optically tested, with connectors designed to Telcordia GR-326-CORE specifications to ensure quality optical performance. According to the company, the multimode fiber option supports long distance or remote connections up to 300 m, while the singlemode fiber option is suitable for distances over one km.
Pricing for a 25-meter long multimode pigtail assembly is under $75. Lead-time is four weeks, according to the company.
