BTI Systems partners with DragonWave for all-packet mobile backhaul
Optical transport platform developer BTI Systems has become the latest company to develop a purpose-built offering for mobile backhaul. The company’s new All-Packet Mobile Backhaul Solution brings new capabilities to the company’s existing 700 Series Carrier Ethernet platforms. It also leverages a partnership with DragonWave (TSX:DWI) (NASDAQ:DRWI) that will see DragonWave’s Fusion portfolio of circuit-over-packet and multi-service access products incorporated into BTI Systems’ mobile backhaul offering.
The All-Packet Mobile Backhaul Solution, which is available now and elements of which are already in carrier networks according to VP of Global Marketing Glenn Thurston, provides the benefits of Carrier Ethernet from the tower to the mobile switching center. These benefits include scalability, security and service prioritization to mirror "private line" connectivity within a shared packet access, aggregation, and core networks. Other features include:
- Resilient fiber ring protection via G.8032 ERPS as well as support for duplicate tower, ring interconnect, and MSC feeds with cross-module Link Aggregation (LAG).
- Service Provisioning via the company’s proNX Service Manager
- SLA performance monitoring through a portal-based management and reporting schem that uses Y.1731 Ethernet OAM visibility end-to-end
The portfolio also is designed to obviate the need for headend NIDs while providing clock synchronization transparency.
Meanwhile, the DragonWave equipment will offer T1/E1 connectivity. Thurston says that equipment from the two companies has already been used in mobile backhaul applications, but not on the formalized basis the new partnership enables.
"Our wireless backhaul business is growing rapidly, driven by the adoption of advanced mobile broadband technology and consumers thirst for applications and video," said Fahim Sheikh, vice president of APAC sales, BTI Systems. "BTI Systems fiber-based network operators are continuing to scale backhaul for mobile services. Working alongside our partners, BTI Systems is already providing backhaul services to major mobile and WiMax operators within Malaysia and Singapore."
