Report: Sales of edge routers to outpace core routers in '07

August 8, 2006 Redwood City, CA -- The worldwide service provider router market will increase 20% in 2006--to more than $5 billion--and then continue expanding annually through 2010, reveals a new report from Dell'Oro Group. Over the next five years, sales of edge routers will grow faster than core routers, as service providers construct networks that can deliver new, revenue-generating services such as voice-over-IP (VoIP) and IPTV.

"Service providers are shifting their investments toward the next generation of edge routers to build reliable, feature-rich, high-speed networks," notes Shin Umeda, principal analyst of routers research at Dell'Oro Group. "The end-game for them is to be able to sell additional, high-value services to the growing broadband customer base," he adds.
