Eurocabel-1 chooses OFS fiber

July 20, 2006, Moscow, Russia -- Eurocabel-1 LLC, which specializes in the manufacture of optical cables for communication systems, has announced that effective this past July 1, their main production of singlemode optical fiber cables will feature OFS' AllWave Zero Water Peak (ZWP) G.652.D fiber.

Eurocabel-1 LLC is a Russian company whose optical cables are designed for application within the communication lines of the Russian Federation Unified communications network, as well as on the communication lines of other operating companies belonging to other ministries and institutions. The company was established in 2003. In 2006 it plans to increase manufacturing capacity to 20,000 km of cable per year.

AllWave ZWP fiber is compatible with the embedded base of existing G.652 type A, B, and C singlemode fibers. It is manufactured via the vertical axial deposition (VAD) method to produce what OFS asserts is excellent optical loss and fiber geometry.

"The replacement of standard G.652 singlemode fiber by the AllWaveâ��¥ ZWP fiber will provide a competitive advantage to our customers, since AllWave ZWP fiber provides a 50% increase in usable optical spectrum as compared with standard singlemode fiber" said Edward Kim, general director of Eurocabel-1 LLC. "The replacement will not result in price increase of new optical cables," he added.

Alexander Mikilev, marketing director of the OFS Russian representative office, added, "We consider Eurocabel-1 LLC cables with AllWave ZWP fiber represents a natural choice for most network operating companies. More than 200,000 km of AllWave fiber have already been deployed in the Russian interconnected network by now; however, we are sure that this figure will rapidly increase."
