JANUARY 28, 2010 -- Cable MSO Insight Communications has deployed “a full complement” of Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) digital video technologies for an extensive network upgrade, including SD and HD encoders with integrated video/audio re-encoding technology and distributed statistical multiplexing.

Harmonic also provided system integration and commissioning services for the project, which included system upgrades in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Harmonic's systems are being used to power Insight's Digital 5.0 service, which features over 330 channels and an HD line-up of up to 58 channels. Insight also uses Harmonic's NSG 9000 universal edgeQAMs to power its on-demand offering of over 7,500 titles monthly, as well as NMX Digital Service Manager to manage the complete video network infrastructure.

"We are very satisfied by the great video quality of Harmonic's compression and stream processing solutions," said Abraham Naghibi, vice president of advanced video engineering, Insight Communications. "With this upgrade, we have invested in a state-of-the-art, fully IP-based infrastructure that can seamlessly support our recently expanded digital cable service."
