OCTOBER 20, 2010 -- Optelian has expanded its reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) product line with 4-degree capability. This new capability is designed to enable network operators to automate provisioning of DWDM mesh and interconnected ring architectures. Optelian says that, thanks to the new 4-degree ROADM capability, technicians will not have to go to intermediate nodes in a network to connect jumpers and rebalance optical power levels on DWDM systems, resulting in significant operational savings.

Optelian’s ROADM system now supports 2-, 3-, and 4-degree switching of forty 100-GHz spaced channels. It has real time optical power level monitoring, automatic power balancing, and remote wavelength provisioning. As part of the LightGAIN system, it is both affordable and easy to use, Optelian asserts.

“Network operators need to quickly provision bandwidth in their networks while lowering costs at the same time,” said Dave Mills, VP sales at Optelian. “A 4-degree ROADM makes it easier for network operators to deploy new services in their networks and add and change bandwidth to meet ever changing user demands. This new capability is a key part of Optelian’s overall agile optical network strategy.”
