AUGUST 21, 2007 -- ECI Telecom Ltd. (search for ECI Telecom), a global provider of networking infrastructure equipment, has announced that ATM S.A., an integrator and carrier of carriers in Poland, has selected ECI's optical transport platforms to build its first national converged TDM-packet-DWDM backbone network. Through this converged architecture, ATM will be able to offer its carrier customers multiple high-speed circuit, data, and wavelength services.

According to ECI Telecom, ATM selected the XDM line of multiservice transport platforms (MSTPs) to upgrade its existing optical network because of the multidegree flexibility that enables several network layers on one platform including DWDM, Ethernet, and SDH. These platforms will be first deployed in four cities in southern Poland.

"Demand for bandwidth in Poland is growing and to stay competitive we have to quickly, yet cost-effectively, build a new backbone network that is able to offer a variety of services," says Roman Szwed, president of ATM S.A. "ECI is supplying us with a flexible solution that satisfy both our technological and business needs."

The XDM's All-Range WDM optics, supporting a full range of distances from metro access to regional and long haul, will be used by ATM to bridge very long fiber spans and expand the network into other parts of Poland next year. ECI Telecom says the XDM's optical transport network (OTN) mapping and multiplexing features will ensure high transparency, quality of service, and multivendor interoperability for all SDH and data services, including 10-Gigabit Ethernet LAN.
