September 27, 2005 Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, CA -- At ECOC 2005 in Glasgow, Scotland, Quake Technologies, in collaboration with Opnext, demonstrated Quake's QT2032, a low power LAN/WAN PHY IC for 10-Gbit/sec Ethernet applications.

In the demonstration, the QT2032 is shown as part of a metropolitan DWDM network architecture; the device drives Opnext's TRF7050 XFP module, employing built-in packet generators and checkers to provide LAN/WAN traffic for the network.

"The QT2032 is an integral part of our DWDM network demonstration," says Ed Cornejo, director of product marketing at Opnext. "The Quake QT2032 is an ideal solution for OEMs who want to seamlessly support both LAN and WAN applications."

Quake says the QT2032 is its third-generation XFI-to-XAUI PHY IC for 10 Gbit/sec Ethernet applications. According to the company, the IC enables Ethernet traffic over LAN or SONET/SDH and WDM WAN networks with its SONET-compliant jitter performance and extensive feature set. Interoperability is ensured by field trials over existing LAN/WAN networks, according to the company. The company says the QT2032's unique combination of low 900 mW power dissipation, a single 1.2 V supply, and selectable LAN/WAN operation makes it ideal for next-generation, high-density system cards with tight power and space constraints. The company says the device gives OEMs the flexibility to design one card that operates in both LAN and WAN applications.

The device is now in production. A reference board (QT2032/XFP) is available.
