South Arkansas Telephone deploys Ekinops optical transport platforms
South Arkansas Telephone Co. (SATCO) has lit a new 300-mile fiber-optic network based on optical transport equipment from Ekinops, the systems house reports.
The fiber cable infrastructure runs from Hope to Monticello across the southern tier of Arkansas. SATCO will use the fiber-optic network to offer services of up to 10 Gbps, including Internet access, cable TV, and voice over IP phone service. The ability to upgrade the optical transport gear -- likely the Ekinops 360 -- with 100-Gbps interfaces will enable SATCO to add capacity as needs dictate, Ekinops points out.
"We have been planning this network for years and see it as a key to economic development across the region," said Mark Lundy, director of SATCO. "The cost-effective equipment that Ekinops provided to enable us to go live on this network was the final step toward making our optical dream a reality."
